World-Check and Dow Jones entries and PEP status

We examine the basis for an entry in a compliance database, prepare the documents and seek correction or removal where there are grounds. We also handle the removal of PEP status once the relevant period has passed.

Why it matters now

Structure of a database record: category, sources, last update date

Commercial databases such as World-Check (LSEG), Dow Jones Risk & Compliance and LexisNexis are used by banks worldwide. An entry is rarely a “system error”: it refers to specific publications and sources.

So the work starts with the basis for the entry. If the source is inaccurate, outdated or concerns a namesake, the provider is obliged to review the entry on request. If the basis is real, we work on context and timing.

When you need it

If you recognise your situation, the check is either under way or about to start.

The bank cites a database

A refusal or request for explanations that mentions World-Check or Dow Jones.

An entry about a namesake

You have been merged with someone else in a database profile.

Outdated PEP status

The period since leaving public office has passed, but the status remains.

An entry based on dropped charges

The case is closed, but the database profile does not reflect it.

Can an entry be removed from World-Check?

If the basis is inaccurate or does not relate to you, yes: the provider reviews the entry. If the basis is real, a correction is usually possible, for example adding the outcome of a case.

How long does it take?

The provider usually responds within 30 to 90 days of receiving a complete set of documents. Preparing the documents takes 2–5 weeks.

When is PEP status removed?

It depends on the jurisdiction and the provider’s policy: usually after a set period following departure from office. We check whether that period applies to you and prepare the request.

Will the bank see the changes immediately?

Banks update their data on their own schedule. So we prepare a dossier with supporting evidence for the bank, without waiting for the update.
